The Savage Self-Care Series: The Vaguru Unveiled

Uncategorized

Self-care. It’s a term that gets thrown around a lot, especially in the wellness space, but how often do we get to hear about it from someone who’s truly walked through fire, someone who turned every setback into an opportunity? Meet The Vaguru—the spiritual and wellness disruptor who’s flipping the script for women of color. No fluff, no Instagram-worthy aesthetics—just real talk, raw truth, and deep wisdom.

This blog is the first feature in our Savage Self Care Series, where we bring in bold experts who are pushing boundaries, challenging outdated narratives, and inspiring women of color to reclaim their wellness on their own terms. The Vaguru is here to do exactly that. Through her personal health struggles, professional setbacks, and the triumphs that followed, she teaches us all how to transform pain into power.

In this conversation, I sat down with The Vaguru to discuss how she navigated the toughest moments of her life and emerged stronger, more powerful, and more aligned with her purpose.

From Fibroids to Liberation: The Vaguru’s Journey

The Vaguru’s journey is anything but conventional. Her path to wellness and spiritual leadership was born out of necessity, not just desire. “For a long time, I was told that fibroids were a given—that it was just something I would have to deal with because I was Black,” she begins, her voice calm but firm, speaking with the authority of someone who’s fought hard for the wisdom she carries. “I wasn’t given a choice. I was told it was inevitable. As a Black woman, I was conditioned to believe that my body’s suffering was just part of the package.”

Like so many women of color, The Vaguru was taught to accept pain as a fact of life—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. She was told fibroids were just another thing she’d have to endure, just another part of the reality of being a woman of color. But she didn’t accept that. “I started asking myself, ‘What if I don’t have to live with this? What if there’s another way?’”

She didn’t stop there. The Vaguru took this challenge head-on and began to research, to learn, to heal. She explored every option, from alternative medicine to shifting her mindset, all the while questioning the narratives that society—especially the medical community—had told her about her body and her health.

“I realized I was being fed a story that didn’t belong to me,” she says. “This wasn’t about me being ‘Black’ or ‘destined’ for illness. This was about me not being given the information I needed to reclaim my body and my life.”

This realization didn’t come overnight. It was a long, painful process of dismantling every limiting belief about her health. But it led her to a radical new approach: she stopped seeing her body as broken or destined for pain, and instead, she embraced the idea that healing was possible, and she had the power to make it happen.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

What happens when everything you know gets shattered? For The Vaguru, the answer was simple: she chose to evolve. In the wake of her business being shattered by the COVID pandemic, she didn’t play the victim. She didn’t ask for permission to heal or succeed. Instead, she turned the devastation into an opportunity.

“When COVID hit, it was a huge setback for my business,” she recalls. “But I refused to let that define me. Instead of succumbing to it, I asked, ‘How can I grow from this? What can I learn?’ I realized that what was happening wasn’t just a setback—it was a setup for something bigger. I was being shown my true path, and I had to be brave enough to walk it.”

This mindset didn’t come from an easy place. “I was at rock bottom, but I knew deep down that this was the universe giving me a chance to reconnect with myself on a deeper level. I didn’t have a choice but to see every obstacle as an opportunity.” She credits this transformation to a shift in perspective—one that came from leaning into SUGA—Source, Universe, God, and the Ancestors. “I had to get clear with myself and ask, ‘What does my soul really need?’”

Through her personal health journey and professional struggles, The Vaguru found that every single setback was a setup for a powerful comeback. She began to rebuild herself, not just physically but spiritually and emotionally. “I stopped seeing myself as a victim of my circumstances,” she says. “I started taking responsibility for my health and my life in a way I never had before.”

The Wellness Revolution: Taking Charge of Our Own Bodies

One of the most powerful lessons The Vaguru has learned—and now shares with others—is that we, as women of color, have been conditioned to accept a reality where pain is normalized. Whether it’s chronic illness, emotional labor, or the weight of systemic oppression, we’ve been taught to keep pushing through without question. But what if we chose a different path?

“When it comes to self-care for women of color, we’ve been taught to just push through the pain,” she explains. “We’ve been taught that suffering is part of the deal, that pain is something we just have to endure. But I’m here to tell you: that’s not the truth.”

The Vaguru emphasizes the importance of rejecting this narrative. “We have the power to take charge of our lives, to reclaim our health and our power. We are not meant to live in a constant state of struggle. We deserve to thrive, not just survive.”

This philosophy is rooted in truth. According to research from the American Journal of Public Health, women of color experience disproportionately higher levels of stress, illness, and chronic conditions due to a combination of environmental, cultural, and systemic factors. But what’s even more concerning is the lack of accessible solutions tailored to the unique experiences of these women. The Vaguru is working to change that by empowering women to create their own wellness paths and to reject the idea that pain and suffering are simply part of the package.
