Let’s get one thing straight:
Healing ain’t pretty.
You heard me. Healing is not cucumber water, moon baths, and looking ethereal in a silk robe (although, don’t get me wrong — we do that too).
Healing — real, savage, gut-deep, soul-ripping healing — often looks like an absolute breakdown.
You crying in the shower.
You snapping on your mama.
You quitting that “good” job everyone thinks you’re crazy to leave.
You asking yourself existential questions in the Target parking lot.
And guess what?
That’s normal. That’s sacred. That’s part of your glow-up, baby.
Glow-Ups Aren’t Just Spa Days — They’re Deaths and Rebirths.
Everyone wants the before and after photo, but nobody talks about the during.
The messy middle.
The cocoon phase where the caterpillar literally melts into goo before becoming a butterfly. (Yes, actually melts — science says so).
And that’s what’s happening when you feel like you’re “breaking down” — you are literally dissolving old identities, old trauma responses, old masks you had to wear to survive.
You are melting your former self. Of course it’s uncomfortable. Of course it’s terrifying.
You’re not “doing it wrong.”
You’re doing it exactly right.
Your Nervous System Is Screaming Because It’s Working.
Let’s talk body.
Your brain and nervous system are designed to keep you alive, not to keep you thriving.
(There’s a reason trauma responses like fawning, freezing, or fighting feel like second nature — it’s biology, not weakness.)
When you start healing — setting boundaries, speaking up, choosing yourself — your nervous system panics.
It’s like, “Whoa whoa whoa, we’ve been surviving by people-pleasing for YEARS, girl! You sure you wanna do this?”
Cue: anxiety, guilt, shaking, crying, self-doubt.
But that’s not backsliding — that’s a nervous system being REWIRED.
It’s healing at the somatic level.
You are literally changing your body’s relationship to safety.
And yes, it feels like hot, holy chaos sometimes.
Spiritual Glow-Ups Are Not Instagrammable (At First).
You ever seen one of those “soft life” glow-up reels on TikTok?
The ones where the girlies are sipping matcha, doing Pilates, manifesting a million dollars?
Yeah, cute — but they’re only showing you Chapter 20.
Not Chapter 1 where they were sobbing into a microwaved burrito at 2am, wondering if they were losing their mind.
Healing ain’t pretty because purging isn’t pretty.
Shadow work isn’t pretty.
Feeling the anger, grief, jealousy, and shame you shoved into your spiritual junk drawer for years isn’t pretty.
(Psychologists confirm that facing your “shadow self” is key to actual transformation.)
But it’s real. And it’s the only way to a real spiritual glow-up.
Signs You’re Having a Breakdown (That’s Actually a Breakthrough):
- You’re losing “friends” who only liked you better when you stayed small.
- You’re suddenly exhausted. Healing burns a lot of energy.
- You’re triggered AF. Congrats, the buried stuff is surfacing to be cleared.
- You’re questioning everything. That’s discernment, baby, not despair.
- You feel like a crazy b*tch one minute and a Zen priestess the next. You’re not crazy — you’re becoming conscious.
Let It Look Ugly — That’s Sacred.
Listen.
There’s no medal for looking cute while healing.
There’s no cosmic points for staying polished.
You are allowed to be messy. You are allowed to fall apart. You are allowed to not know who the hell you are for a little while.
It doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you’re breaking open.
Big difference.
So the next time you find yourself ugly-crying while lighting a candle and trying to sage your ex out of your aura, remember:
This is the price of freedom.
This is what birthing yourself looks like.
This is your glow-up in process.
And baby — when you come out the other side?
You won’t even recognize the version of yourself you used to settle for.
Stay savage. Stay soft. Stay sacred.
You’re doing it exactly right.
Nekeya, this was a lot to unpack this morning. But I’m grateful you too the time to edify and energize us for this coming week. I’m grateful to SUGA for you. Keep it coming, SIS!
